Having been a full-time member of British rock band Kasabian for 20 years, Ian Matthews continues to be one of the most influential drummers in the UK, lending his ample skill to a wide range of artists - most notably in the last 3 years to Bristol supergroup The Jazz Defenders.

In this masterclass Ian will talk about his early days in the music industry, his love of jazz, his skill and technique as a session recording artist, his practice routines and of course his experiences on some of the biggest stages in the world with Kasabian. Ian will also share his passions for rock and jazz and how they feed into one another in various aspects of his career.

Before opening for a Q&A, Ian will demonstrate some of his favourite grooves, rhythms, rudiments and fills as well as performing and improvising live with The Jazz Defenders’ founder and bandleader, pianist George Cooper.
