Blues Jam Session
Sat 25 May 2024 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Sidmouth Methodist Church, EX10 8LE
Description
This year the festival is pleased to host a Blues Jam Session following the successful format of the Blues in The Pews, held once a month in Highbridge, Somerset.
This open curated Blues Jam will be offered at two points over the festival weekend. It will be supported by a house band of three experienced performers to support attendees who wish to participate. This is an inclusive, supportive, and fun model that also ensures a quality experience for all involved. It allows for more experienced participants to shine with a supportive rhythm section and less experienced people to sit in alongside the house band and be guided along.
How will it work?
Performing slots for the weekend sessions can be booked online. It may be possible for ‘walk-ins’ to sign up on the day, provided the pre-booked slots have not all gone, a sheet will be provided at the start of the event - however to guarantee your space we recommend you book now!
There will be a running order in a folder that walk-ins can sign up for the last few slots, 30 minute sign-up and prep-time for the house band, followed by a 2 hour session (inc breaks) hosted by Daniel Shaw, backed by the house band.
Participants should be prepared to join in or lead two blues songs. The house band can lead a standard blues song should the participant just wish to jam along. Heads up from pre-bookings to the house band of keys or more complex blues songs would be appreciated, or if appropriate, bring a couple of lead sheets.
The sessions will be fun and inclusive, if there is time, participants may be asked to join in a free-for-all jam for the last song or to do an extra number if time allows at the discretion of the host.
Please note:
- Only participating musicians need to sign up for the session - no need for audience members to register for this event.
- It is highly recommended you sign up to this session in advance to ensure your place.
- You should be available at the start of the session and the host will call you up to the stage.
- Please be prepared to use the simple backline offered at the venue as there is no time to PAT check your equipment.
- Microphones, drums, guitar/bass amp and keyboard will all be provided at the venue.
