Superlocrian is one of the UK’s finest new chamber jazz ensembles.

Led by highly regarded composer Sam Massey, this six-piece wind ensemble contains some of the countries leading jazz soloists, orchestral players and world-class session musicians.

As featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune performing top-class new arrangements and compositions, this highly-skilled ensemble blends the sound worlds of brass and woodwind from across genres in a fresh and exciting format.

Led by accomplished composer, trumpet player and musical director Sam Massey, Superlocrian performs a wide range of arrangements, from beloved favourites to original works.

Now based in the South West of England, Sam Massey leads and manages Superlocrian, performing exciting shows with skilled musicians who delight audiences everywhere.

Superlocrian is known for its rich and evocative style that skillfully blends genres. Achieving this are six talented and experienced musicians who have performed for audiences worldwide and alongside artists from the world of pop, jazz and orchestral genres.

Gavin Mallett is an outstanding British trumpet player who can be heard on the soundtracks of some of the UK’s most beloved film and television shows, including Bugsy Malone, Dance with a Stranger, Rough Cut and La Vie en Rose. He has also performed with international stars like Dame Shirley Bassey and Bon Jovi.

Lancashire-born Dean Wright is a Professor of Trumpet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, who is passionate about musical education and was previously a judge on the world-renowned BBC Young Musician competition. He trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Highly skilled and versatile flautist and saxophonist Jade Gall is known for her ability to blend genres, including pop, jazz, and classical. She is a Fellow of Trinity College London as a classical saxophonist, and has performed internationally all over Europe in sell-out shows like ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ and ‘Soul Legends’.

Described as a rising star on the British jazz scene by Jazz FM, Tom Green is London-based trombonist and composer/arranger working primarily in the fields of jazz and contemporary music. Winner of the Dankworth Composition Prize and Eddie Harvey Arranger’s Award, he performs regularly around the UK as well as writing for his own projects and other ensembles, and has performed at prestigious venues and festivals including Wigmore Hall and the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Edward Leaker is accomplished in both the saxophone and clarinet, and has performed twice for Her Majesty the Queen herself. He has a first class honours degree from the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and a Masters Degree from the Royal Academy of Music, London.

Mike Poyser is an award-winning musician who has performed with some of the world’s most recognisable institutions, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the World Youth Orchestra, and the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is a lover of varied musical genres, having founded the London Tuba Quartet and Heavy Metal.

Together, these passionate and experienced musicians give Superlocrian its inimitable sound. Their wide range of backgrounds and musical interests coupled with world-class training means they are skilled and versatile across a range of genres.
